Cooperative Traffic Systems –
safe and intelligent
Introduction to the corridor:
Rotterdam – Frankfurt/M. – Vienna
Detecting traffic obstacles before you see them. Identifying hazards before they become a threat. Arriving safely and relaxed at your destination. The networking of vehicles and infrastructure brings us closer to the vision of an intelligent and accident-free mobility. This is achieved technically through cooperative systems. These allow communication between vehicles and roadside infrastructure. In this context it is referred to as V2X-Communication (Vehicle-to-Vehicle and Vehicle-to-Infrastructure Communication) or C-ITS (Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems).
Intelligent Mobility – across borders

The basis for a European-wide implementation of cooperative systems is provided. The technology of cooperative systems has been developed in research and development projects. Currently the procedures for testing under real traffic conditions are defined and coordinated among the corridor partners. A large part of the technical solutions for data communication is standardised. The non-technical aspects (e.g. organisational structures, security measures) are currently being drafted in preparation for the launch of a public-private partnership.
On this basis German, Dutch and Austrian road operators started the gradual introduction of cooperative systems in Europe.
